Luke lesson 22

Contenders Bible Studies
Theophilus Project: The Gospel of Luke: Lesson 22
Jesus Takes Command Part 3 – Luke 5:16-26
Introduction
  • Same Jesus( constantly teaching), same desperate crowds
  • A new character group (antagonist) The not so desperate Pharisees (“separate Ones”)
  • Wherever there is a conquest for the Kingdom of God there is always a skillful and subtle conflict to try and thwart it.
    • This creates an opportunity for God to present Himself as the superior solution to that conflict
      • The conflict is seen with the dark and prideful hearts of the religious
      • The Solution comes with an unlikely object lesson… the paralytic man carried not by his own righteousness but the strength of those who will bare the burden for him.
      • Jesus presents this fundamental solution to all men .Those who are in the house and outside the house alike are in need of what only a merciful God can give …FORGIVENESS
  • Transitional Outline- Jesus Take Command
    • Training the Unaware (vs. 16)
    • Teaching with the Unable(vs. 17-19)
    • Treading over the Unthinkable(vs. 20-24)
    • Terrifying the Unchanged(vs.25-26)
  • Closing Unnatural application
    • They (religious leaders) came without expectation.
      • What expectation do you have of God when you come to Him in Worship, prayer, study, your relationships…ect.
      • Are you expectations fit for the Kingdom of God , or for your kingdom of one
      • Do you come to God carrying yourself or as paralytic dependent on Him
    • They left without excuse
      • However you encounter the Lord this week , your services, devotions, the redemptive moments with your kids. That encounter demands a positive and obedient response (faith) from you (and myself).
      • As God Presents himself in Spirit and in Truth…beware you are of no excuse
